Overview

What is ADISA Standard 8.0?

ADISA Standard 8.0 is a framework for ICT asset recovery and data sanitisation. It uses the Data Impact Assurance Level (DIAL) model to match sanitisation and disposal methods to data sensitivity and business risk.

DIAL 3 is the highest level. It is used for devices that may contain sensitive personal data, special category data, criminal justice information, or high security corporate or government information.

At this level, the focus is on proving control at every step. That includes a secure chain of custody from collection onwards, tightly governed handling and processing, validated sanitisation or destruction methods, and evidence that stands up to internal and external scrutiny.

Our DIAL 3 service is designed to deliver that assurance through strict controls, certified processes, and full traceability, with supporting records that meet audit and compliance requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is DIAL 3 certification, and why is it important?

DIAL 3 is the highest Data Impact Assurance Level under ADISA Standard 8.0. It defines how high-risk data-bearing assets must be handled, processed and disposed of. It is used where data loss or mishandling could result in serious legal, operational or reputational impact.

DIAL 3 applies to devices that may contain sensitive personal data, special category data, criminal justice information, or high security corporate or government data. This typically includes laptops, desktops, servers, storage devices and removable media.

Yes. The service supports UK GDPR requirements for data security, accountability and traceability. Processes are aligned with ADISA Standard 8.0, which reflects ICO expectations for secure data handling and disposal.

Each asset is supported by a documented chain of custody. Evidence can include asset registers, processing logs, data erasure or destruction certificates and summary reports suitable for audit and compliance review.

Yes. Assets are tracked from collection through to final processing. Status and outcomes are recorded and can be reported, providing visibility and control throughout the lifecycle.

Assets are assessed based on data risk and condition. Where reuse is appropriate and secure, devices are refurbished or remarketed. Assets that are not suitable for reuse are processed using certified destruction methods.

Collection, transport and interim storage are managed through controlled processes. Assets are handled within a secure chain of custody and stored in restricted-access environments until processing is completed.
