Business Unit Overview

The Marketing Department plays an integral part in the internal and external communication of the Ci Group brand and its Go to Market capability. The Marketing Department is vital to ensuring the Business realises the maximum potential of its markets. The team work closely with business divisions to create and implement marketing plans, designs and campaigns. The Team is headed by the Marketing Team Leader alongside the Graphic Designer, Marketing Executive and undergraduate student. 

Role Description

The successful placement student will join the Marketing team to gain experience in key areas such as learning how to create collateral and copy writing, understanding the importance of and learning how to complete administrative processes, help to plan and support Company events and develop key skills in building business relationships with all levels of personnel across the Business. A great opportunity to be exposed to and learn about channel marketing, working with industry leading vendors such as Dell, Panasonic, Intel, Getac to create bespoke marketing campaigns and partner marketing activity online.


Placement duties include:

  • Assist with creating marketing material including brochures, press and digital ads, photography and video management.
  • Managing stock and liaising with suppliers for promotional materials.
  • Help with event planning, preparation, creating goodie bags and on the day support.
  • Assisting with vendor marketing development funds, working with the Marketing Executive to gather evidence and write claim submissions.
  • Managing email marketing lists in line with GDPR.
  • Working with the Marketing Executives in managing social media campaigns and analytics.
  • Identifying target audiences for particular communications, such as buying database lists.
  • Conducting competitor research, collating monthly reports on trends and activities.
  • Liaise with Business Managers to support award submission drafts.
  • Support the Marketing team in their day-to-day activities.
  • Support the Marketing team with internal communication and Group events such as Lunch and Learns and Charity events.


At the end of this placement the candidate will have:

  • An understanding and be involved in producing campaigns.
  • Gained experience utilising digital marketing techniques in a commercial environment and measuring their success.
  • Developed skills in communicating with Business professionals and key vendors.
  • Gained hands on experience in event planning and execution.
  • Contributed key research data for campaigns, competitor research and management information.
  • An understanding of stock management and working with suppliers.


The student will also attend monthly Undergraduate meetings, co-ordinated by the Undergraduate Liaison, which will range from general catch ups, knowledge sharing, planning charity and social events and attending specialist sessions with the Business Directors on a range of topics.

Experience and Skills


  • Basic knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Understand the principles of marketing
  • Possess excellent written communication skills
  • Familiar with Microsoft packages i.e. Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc.
  • Keen eye for detail


  • Be able to demonstrate experience in an office environment
  • Basic knowledge of InDesign
  • Experience writing either persona or professional blogs or working in web design
  • Knowledge of the latest digital marketing techniques
  • PDF editing knowledge
  • Visual presentation skills on Powerpoint
